Starting is always the most difficult stage in anything new.
Changing your daily routine and behavior can feel impossible.
Even taking that first step can feel overwhelming.
Diet is one of those things.
Fad diets, keto, gluten-free, Intermittent fasting, Carnivore, etc. There is so much information out there that you don't know which path to go down.
And let's say you do commit to one; how do you know if it will work?
How can you guarantee success?
Answer: start small and keep it simple. Making massive changes to your routine makes it much harder to become a habit.
Baby steps compound over time. Your main focus is to get 1% better every day.
After a year of consistency - you won't recognize yourself.

You are what you eat, which is more than a cliche.
Many sweep food under the rug, but it's crucial for a happy life.
90-95% of serotonin and over 50% of dopamine are produced in your GI Tract.
How we fuel our bodies determines how we respond to the outside world—eating healthy sets you up to be healthy.
Weight loss programs, fitness plans, and health guides highlight exercise to achieve fitness.
Nutrition seems to take a back seat.
The fact is, you can outeat any exercise you do. Fitness starts and ends in the kitchen. What you put in your mouth determines how you want your body to look and feel.
So make starting simple. No gym memberships, no new workout clothes, or expensive trainers. Start with your food choices.
Tactics you can use today:
Commit to a 7-day food diary and be honest. Enter everything you eat. It is impossible to make changes if you don’t know what you are doing currently. Some useful apps like Lose-it make this easier.
Question 1: Do my total daily calories meet or exceed my daily needs? Use this calculator to find your caloric intake to meet your goals.
Question 2: Are my food choices nutrient-dense? Good whole foods vs. empty calories?
Question 3: Are you proud of what you eat?
Question 4: What is your alcohol intake? Sugar intake? Dairy intake? (all things you should avoid or reduce).
Question 5: How do I feel overall?
Once you have the diary and answers to these basic questions, pick one thing to change to start your journey. Try it for a week and see how you feel. Then, add on from there.
Change your diet one simple step at a time and change your life forever.
All the best,
Jeremy London, M.D.
